Defeating Gum Disease Without Pain
Periodontal (gum) disease is the main reason for tooth loss. Dr. Sulzbach utilizes the latest advancement in fighting gum infections with ARESTIN™, used in conjunction with periodontal therapy. This powerful powder of microspheres is highly successful in combating this serious problem. It is a time-released antibiotic that is delivered right to the site of the infection. It is a painless solution that really works!
Are You at Risk for Oral Cancer?
The VELscope is a handheld device that emits a harmless, bright blue light used to inspect the mouth and tongue. The device is able to detect abnormal tissue changes. Healthy tissue lights up in distinct patterns that may be disrupted when tissue undergoes an abnormal change, such as when associated with oral cancer. The Velscope is used periodically in addition to the traditional head and neck and oral cancer screening performed at every patient exam.
Another form of evaluation is dental x-rays. They are taken to check for the amount of bone support around the teeth, they also help to detect decay in between the teeth.
Our x-rays are digital images, which can be taken inside or outside the mouth, depending on the patient’s diagnostic needs. Intraoral x-rays (which include the recommended yearly bitewings, as well as full series and periapical), are achieved by placing a digital sensor inside your mouth to take an image. The images are downloaded into our computer and are available quickly for diagnosis. Extraoral Images (panoramic) are taken with a machine that revolves around the patient. Using digital images reduces radiation by 75%, promoting a safer environment for the patient. Additionally, there are no chemicals used in the process to pollute the environment.
We perform every procedure with instruments that have been sterilized after one use; single-use tools are also used as needed. As we take sterilization very seriously, we use a state-of-the-art unit known as an autoclave. An outside lab monitors this device to provide the highest level of cleanliness for all tools. We never take even the slightest risk with your health.
Technology Lets You Become Part of the Team
Dr. Sulzbach will always work together with every patient. He brings a patient into the decision-making process with a miniature video camera that provides a clear picture of problem teeth as well as healthy teeth. This intra-oral camera lets you see what teeth need to be worked on and which are just fine. You become an active participant in every dental decision.
Prevention for Knocking Out a Tooth
If you play sports, protection with a proper mouthguard is necessary to prevent injury to or loss of teeth. It is estimated that 5 million teeth are lost each year due to trauma and injuries during athletic participation. The mouthguards you can purchase in stores do not give a specific fit for an individual’s mouth and may obstruct breathing. Dr. Sulzbach offers custom-made mouthguards that fit properly and give maximum protection. The American Dental Association promotes the use of these individualized mouthguards for these sports: soccer, squash, surfing, volleyball, shotputting, skateboarding, skiing, skydiving, ice hockey, lacrosse, martial arts, racquetball, roller hockey, rugby, acrobatics, basketball, boxing, field hockey, football, gymnastics, and handball.
